About the memorial: A 150mm Japanese field gun donated by Lord Mountbatten who received the gun as Supreme Allied Commander of the South East Asia command on surrender of the Japanese forces. The two photographs show that the gun has been relocated within the park between the 1990s and the present day. Sited on a concrete base within a lawned area of the park.

This World War II 150mm Japanese Field Gun was presented to the townspeople of Romsey in 1946 by Rear Admiral, The Viscount Mountbatten of Burma, GCVO, KCB, DSO, LLD, DCL, Supreme Allied Commander - South East Asia Command. In recognition of the Townspeople's service both military and civil in the Second World War. 'When you go home, tell them of us and say for your tomorrow we gave our today'. This plaque was presented by the Romsey Branch, the Royal British Legion following refurbishment of the gun by Test Valley Borough Council in 2001.
