About the memorial: This stone memorial is composed of three steps up to two base sections, which in addition to the plinth, contain the dedicatory inscriptions. On top of the plinth stands a marble figure of a kilted highland soldier with his head bowed, wearing a steel helmet with pack, resting on his Arms Reversed. The memorial stands on a paved area which has posts and chains linked on three sides. The memorial has inscriptions of 116 names for WW1, 24 or 33 or 35 names for WW2 and 1 name for the Gulf War (1990 – 1991) conflict. The original fence at the front of the memorial has at some time been removed. The carved wooden rifle was missing for some time, presumably due to decay it had to be replaced. It is thought that the memorial was unveiled about 1920.
