About the memorial: The Portland stone war memorial in the village of Bramfield in north east Suffolk is a wheel cross on a shaft on a plinth on a square base. There is a foliate decoration in the centre of the cross and a badge near the bottom of the shaft with the dates 1914 – 1918 carved on it. There are raised lead letters on the plinth and on the base. The memorial stands in the churchyard of St Andrew’s parish church, which is unusual in having a thatched roof and a cylindrical bell tower. The bell tower, which stands separately from the church, is over thirteen metres high and its wall is over a metre thick.
