About the memorial: A rectangular stone monument, surmounted by a bronze figure of a bare-headed soldier, sitting on a rock, rifle resting on his right knee, held by his right hand, the soldier looking to his rear.Comparing the 1990s and 2013 photos suggests a significant improvement in the condition of the memorial. The memorial commemorates the men of Suffolk who died during the Second Boer War in South Africa, 1899-1902. The names are listed according to their unit seniority, cavalry, followed by artillery, the Suffolk Regiment, other infantry and volunteers, listed by rank and alphabetically within each group.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
