Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

Now I have left Wirral, I thought it worthwhile to add a little bit of history to the memorial page.

Peter Jackson-Lee, the War Memorials Officer for Wirral approached the Royal British Legion to enquire as to their plans form the War Memorial which was situated in the fenced off grounds of the closed Moreton Royal British Legion Club. Mr Jackson-Lee worked with the Royal British Legion to find a new suitable location for the memorial as the Royal British Legion had plans to sell off the former club site. 

After investigating numerous alternatives, Mr Jackson-Lee approached the Moreton Methodist church on the corner of Pasture Road and Maryland Lane to ask permission to relocate the memorial there. The Northwest Area representatives of the church agreed with the proposals but sadly the local committee did not, and another location had to be found. This was to be on a corner plot of Pasture Road and Maryland Lane, across the road from the church and Wirral’s Highways Department, who were responsible for this corner of land agreed the memorial could be located there. 

The Memorial Cross was duly removed from its current site and relocated a few hundred yards further down Pasture Road into its new location. There was an addition of two round concrete planters and the two bench seats from the existing memorial’s location. This new location allowed for true full access to the memorial at anytime rather than when it was within the fenced off area within the Royal British Legion Club.
