About the memorial: The memorial is in the Chancel floor. Strictly speaking this is a tomb so should not really be here. But it is to the 1685 Monmouth Rebellion, surely the only one on the website? A pity about the altar rail being in the way in the photographs but I could not move it without risking damaging it. If the photo is hard to read, he died of wounds received at Bridport in the service of King James II against the rebellion of the Duke of Monmouth. This rebellion ended in defeat at the Battle of Sedgemoor and was followed by a reign of terror in the west country led by Judge Jeffreys and the Bloody Assize.
