About the memorial: Standing on a grass verge at the junction of Lamble Close with The Street.A slender stone obelisk, standing atop four, graduated square plinths, upon a large square pavement. At each corner is a bollard, which are linked by chain. On the front (south) face of the upper plinth on a granite plaque is the general commemoration for those who died in WW1 and WW2. Beneath this on the next plinth begin the 24 names of the fallen from WW1, arranged in alphabetical surname order, showing rank, first name, surname, decorations were aplicable, and units. These names continue on the east and north faces, which additionally lists one civilian on the next plinth down. On the west face are the 8 names of those who died in WW2, giving the same rank, first name, additional intials, surname and unit details. Built by Messrs H.G.Neville and Son, and unveiled on 3rd July 1919 by Sgt A Mothersole M.M.. It was originally installed near junction of The Street with Holmsey Green, then moved to the right front corner of the Methodist Churchyard further along The Street. It was moved to its present position in 1995, the names from 1939-1945 were added and it was re-dedicated on 12th August 1995 Then polished granite panels were let into the plinths in 2001 to replace the various inscriptions which had become very badly eroded. It was rededicated on 11th November 2001 There are notes about it in the Bury and Norwich Post of 11th July 1916.
