About the memorial: At least part of this memorial is a replacement for an earlier version. Situated on the wall in the corner of the main bar of the British Legion Club.T wo boards, the left hand one commemorates, in alphabetical order, 54 men of the Ecclesiastical parish of Paul who died in WW1; the right hand board commemorates, in alphabetical order, 27 men who died in WW2; one who died in the Yemen (Aden) in 1963; and one in Afghanistan in 2010. (Note: those from WW1 and WW2 are also commemorated on a roll of honour in the Church of St. Pol, at Paul, where there is also a memorial tablet for those of WW1). Between these two boards there is also a detailed book of remembrance providing biographical details and photographs of those listed on the boards. The centre-piece to this memorial is a coloured painting of Joseph Trewavas, the first Cornishman to win the Victoria Cross, which was won in the Crimean War, and who was born in a cottage in Mousehole. Below his painting are replicas of his medals. See also WMO/292895 for an adjacent embroidered Roll of Honour.
