About the memorial: Within the church on the right hand (south) wall of the nave, to the left of the main door.A brass memorial tablet, engraved around the edges with the battle honours of the regiment. The central plaque is adorned at the top with the regimental bade, flanked by engraved battle honours gained in the Boer War and enamelled images of the Queens and Kings South Africa Medals. Below are listed a total of 133 names, arranged by rank and then alphabetically in four groups: Killed in Action (40); Died of Wounds (24); Drowned on Patrol (5); and Died of Disease (64).

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING OFFICERS NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND MEN OF THE 1ST BATTN THE SHERWOOD FORESTERS [NOTTINGHAMSHIRE AND DERBYSHIRE REGIMENT] WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE SOUTH AFRICAN CAMPAIGN 1899-1902. THIS BRASS IS PLACED BY THEIR COMRADES OF ALL RANKS. (after the names) IN ADDITION TO THE ABOVE 9 OFFICERS, 22 NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND 110 MEN OF THE BATTALION WERE WOUNDED DURING THE CAMPAIGN.
