About the memorial: Polished grey granite memorial with lettering engraved and painted white; simplified Gothic detailing. Rests on two levels of dark grey polished granite above one deep level of light grey unpolished granite. Surmounted by grey granite tapered column topped with ball finial; decorated with polished bands in relief. Line engraving of two crossed rifles at lower end of column. Pedestal consists of two levels of unpolished grey granite above one level of concrete. Additional polished grey granite plaque, with engraved lettering painted white, rests on pedestal against memorial. Two modern metal wreath holders are fixed into lower granite level of pedestal. Memorial stands on concrete base enclosed by low sandstone settings, which appear to have originally hosted railings. This is enclosed by raised beds and curved modern drystone wall. Chain-link fencing stands in front of stone setting on front elevation. Access from roadside provided by concrete path and steps. Wardhill is about 3 miles south of the ferry pier or 4 miles south of the airstrip on the main island spine road, close to the Island school.
