Whilst in the United Kingdomconverting onto the new Vickers Wellington bomber, a number of which were being purchased for a home defence role, the RNZAF 'New Zealand Flight' was directed by its Government to remain for operational duties with Royal Air Force Bomber Command. This decision was recognised when in April 1940, the Flight formed the major part of the re-designated and named: No. 75 (NEW ZEALAND) SQUADRON, ROYAL AIR FORCE. The Squadron's first permanent station was nearby ROYAL AIR FORCE FELTWELL and its outstanding operational record there between April 1940 and June 1942 would be followed by further distinguished service on other East Anglian bases of No. 3 Group, Bomber Command. 'Remembering with pride, their service and sacrifice.' Vickers Wellington 1a, 1c, 111. Squadron code: AA. The RAF '75 Squadron' number was ultimately presented to New Zealand. No. 75 Squadron RNZAF flew with distinction from October 1946 until disbanding at Ohakea in December 2001. No. 75 (New Zealand) Squadron Association (UK Branch) November 2003
