About the memorial: The Seaman's Memorial is located at the top of the bank alongside the River Ouse within a square of railings. It contains two raised beds of roses, four memorial seats and three individual memorials (not connected to conflict). There is also a large black painted anchor. At the rear is wall containing the names of ships lost from C14th to 1972 erected by the Goole and District Mariners Association. The war memorial aspect is a black marble angled plaque at the entrance and the re-located Christ Church Memorial situated to the right rear of the memorial garden.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

At the top '1826 MN 1998' followed by 'In memory of all the seamen who sailed from the town and port of Goole who died in Peace and War' then 'The water flowed on every side. No hand was there to save. At last compelled they bowed and died. And found a watery grave.'
