About the memorial: This is a memorial to Carrier Pigeons who lost their lives on active service during the Second World War. It consists of a garden within Beach House Park dedicated to those birds lost in WW2 and for the use of living birds (animals in war). The memorial was unveiled in 1949 and represents a fairy glen.

PLAQUE: IN MEMORY OF 'WINKIE' A PIGEON SERVING WITH BEAUFORT SQUADRON NO 1 RAF PIGEON SERVICE. THE CRAFT SHE WAS ON DITCHED AND DESPITE BEING COVERED IN OIL SHE WAS ABLE TO FLY HOME AND DELIVER THE MESSAGE SHOWING WHERE THE CREW WHERE. ALL WERE RESCUED SAFELY (EXACT INSCRIPTION UNKNOWN)
