The plinth stands on a four-stepped base and carries inscribed inscriptions on each face and has a bronze wreath part way up the obelisk on the north elevation. The memorial was designed in 1920, unveiled in 19th July 1923 by HRH the Prince of Wales to commemorate 44 local people who lost their lives in WWI.
