About the memorial: Simple brass plaque on a piece of wood on a larger piece of wood bearing the Scottish saltire. The end of the inscription is in Gaelic. it should be read in conjunction with the Churchyard Memorial which commemorates the English losses. The site is best located by finding the interpretation board beside the Kelter Well at the far south end of the village. Legend says that they are buried where they fell under the ‘Rebel Tree’ (the local name) beside this memorial. The 59 home Oak Tree Estate was built in 2017, and the oak tree given prominence due to its supposed history. The Scottish Jacobite Party threatened to have the estate demolished, due to "desecration of a war grave" which they say may contain as many as 12 bodies. Archaeological surveys done as part of the build failed to establish any such mass grave. The tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order.
