About the memorial: Two storey folly tower with stone tablet- on the south facing elevation. It was built as 3 storeys but the top storey was removed many years ago, date unknown. It was originally a viewpoint but during the 20th century dense woodland has been planted, and it now has no views. For a long time it was quite hard to find, forlorn and forgotten about and the entrance doorway has been blocked up. It was formerly known as the Pennington Lodge Tower. In 2015 it and the woodlands were sold to a new private owner. In 2018 to 2022 it has been fully restored and the doorway opened up with internal access on certain dates. Additionally three stones have been added next to the tower, one for each battle, with relevant inscriptions. It can be accessed from both Finsthwaite and Newby Bridge. The battles referred to are the naval battles of St. Vincent, Camperdown and the Nile. The pin location is accurate, having been hugely mislocated originally by this website. Note that although the stones are new they are not weathering well and did not photograph very well due to how they have been incised, but I transcribed on site.
