About the memorial: Two marble tablets one for each war. The WW1 Tablet bears the names of the 26 Old Boys who died in the first World War. It is displayed in Farnworth Town Hall. It has been removed from its original structure and framed in oak. The WW2 War Memorial, which was paid for (at least partly) by money raised by the Old Farnworthians organisation is comprised of a stone commemorative tablet bearing the names of the 31 Old Boys killed in WW2.

This note was written by Mr. A. Wilson and is transcribed from the programme for the Service of Unveiling and Dedication of the school's WW2 Memorial Tablet. The service was held in the school on Wednesday July 14th, 1951. --------------------------
The Memorial to the twenty-six boys who fell in the Great War 1914-18 consists of a Memorial Window in the School Hall, a carved oak Lectern and the Turret Clock. This Memorial was dedicated on July 22nd, 1931 by the Lord Bishop of Manchester (Dr. Guy Warman).

The Memorial to the thirty boys who lost their lives in the Great War 1939-45 takes the form of a Memorial Tablet in Hopton Wood Marble erected in the School Hall. It is hoped that the remainder of the money raised will provide a Sports Pavilion for the Old Farnworthians' Association (Boys and Girls).

The O.F.A. Memorial Fund for Pavilion and Memorial Tablet has been raised by Toy Fairs held in School which were efforts by the Staff and Pupils of the School, by Concerts and Plays by the Old Farnworthians' Dramatic Society, and by donations. Sincere appreciation is due to the Staff and the Boys and Girls of the School, to the Old Farnworthians who gave their services in the Entertainments, to those who have subscribed and to the parents and friends who have helped. The sum raised amounts to over £700.

The Memorial Tablet was designed by Mr. S. H. Ormerod, Art Master of the School and was executed by Messrs. J. and H. Patteson, Ltd., of Manchester.

Thanks are due to the Governors of the School and the Lancashire Education Committee for giving permission for the erection of the Memorial.

NOTE: The WW2 tablet actually bears 31 names although the programme records only 30. The missing name is that of L. SUMNER, who attended FGS from 1926 to 1931 and whose name on the tablet itself appears to have been a later amendment.
