About the memorial: Polish Armed Forces: The present roadside combined memorial plaque & seating area have recently replaced an earlier memorial on the same site. Circular plaque on rear wall of a brick built walled enclosure with copings, lower wall & opening facing the road. Loose slate base. 305 (PoAF) Sqn Wellington W5374 SM-J had departed Lindholme at 1732 on 23/12/41 for Ops Cologne The aircraft had departed Lindholme at 1732 for Ops Cologne. It is believed the aircraft was damaged by Flak over the target area and on return to the UK, the crew became lost and they eventually crashed at 2120. Had they known it, the crew were actually seconds from safety as the airfield of RAF Husbands Bosworth lay less than a mile away to the North-West, just over the county border in Leicestershire.

Sibbertoft Parish Council. On the 24th. December 1941 a Vickers Wellington No. 5374 (SM-J) returning from a bombing mission over Cologne crashed near this place with the loss of all members of the Polish crew, having been badly damaged by German anti aircraft artillery.
