Type: Non freestanding
Location: Internal
Setting: Inside a building - public/private
Description: Board/Plaque/ Tablet
Materials:
  • Metal Brass
Lettering: Inscribed on a plaque
Conflicts:
  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: A brass plaque with a border of roses and oak leaves with a wreath at its top and names etched below. There must be some doubt as to whether this is the original plaque as most of the Church was destroyed in the early hours of 29 April 1942 by a German air force raid on York dropping incendiary bombs (the Baedeker Raid). Most of St Martin was destroyed by fire, though the south aisle survived. It is the south aisle which makes up the present building.
