About the memorial: Celtic cross with a Sword of Sacrifice set on a stone shaft, marble pillar and marble plinth. The whole is set on a stone base and four steps. Each side of the base are two small pillars with a small wall between with a carved wreath and dates. (c IWM 34946) 1925 Unveiled by Sir Berkerley Sheffield, MP on Whit Sunday 31stMay. Dedicated by the Rev. A.E.Day, Erected at Ashby Turn. Roll of Honour handed to Coun. Tomlinson who said it would be handed to the Ashby Librarian for safe custody (Source Scunthorpe Star 6/6/1925) 1963 The British Legion felt that the location at Ashby Turn was unsuitable for a war memorial being sited next to a public toilet, Memorial moved to its present site on Ashby High Street at St Paul's Church (Source Scunthorpe & Frodingham Star 1/11/63)

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
