About the memorial: This is the war memorial from West Downs School, Winchester, an independent preparatory school. The memorial was moved to WWT Slimbridge Wetland Centre after the school closed in the 1980s. The school was was attended by Sir Peter Scott, the founder of the Severn Wildfowl Trust (now the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust). The bronze statue of a boy was sculpted by Sir Peter's mother, Kathleen Scott, Baroness Kennet. The plinth contains names from both world wars and the phrase from Isaiah 6:8: 'HERE AM I | SEND ME.'
