About the memorial: A plain rectangular bronze plaque with incised upright mixed case lettering coloured white. The plaque is attached to an existing disused and modified pink granite drinking fountain, originally given to the town by R E Pannett, with the plaque donated by The Fairmead Concert Party. The drinking fountain was originally donated to the town by one of Whitby's most generous benefactors, Whitby born and bred Robert Elliott Pannett. This was moved slightly nearer to the bridge house adjacent to the swing bridge, following changes to the road layout. The Fairmead Concert Party put on its first variety show in 1980 at the old Fairmead Social Club at Larpool. After 25 years, one of Whitby's most popular amateur dramatics companies finally called it a day in January 2006, having staged variety performances and raising thousands of pounds for charity, including the memorial plaque on the drinking fountain.
