About the memorial: Free standing Horton stone with plaque. 12 OTU Wellington BK157 had departed Chipping Warden at 1005 for a cine gun Op on 21 May 1944. During the sortie and following evasive manoeuvres, the aircraft suffered catastrophic in-flight structural failure when the Port Wing folded. The aircraft fell to the ground and exploded at Tadmarton, 5 miles South west of Banbury. All seven crew – One Pilot, two Air Gunner’s and 4 trainee Air Gunners were killed.
