About the memorial: Previous location: Sands End Lane, Imperial Road, Fulham, London Historic England entry below. Rendered plinth with moulded coping supporting two bronze inscription panels. Upper panel bears a relief of an armoured, winged figure depicting St Michael, with the inscription 'THESE MEN DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY'; below is the inscription '1914-1919. The Gas Light and Coke Company'; ten columns of names of the dead. The lower panel sports another ten columns of names of the dead with the inscription 'TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE MEMBERS OF THE COMPANY WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR OF 1939-45. REQUIESCAT IN PACE'; an enamelled badge of the company is in the top left-hand corner. HISTORY: the Imperial Gas Light and Coke Co. established itself on this site in 1824. This is a fairly unusual example of a company war memorial. A second example of the Second World War panel set within a classical frame has been re-set on a modern brick base a short distance to the south of this memorial, but is not itself included within the listing.
