About the memorial: A bowling pavilion built in 1923 by WWI soldiers who returned home from the conflict in memory of their comrades who fell during the Great War. The pavilion was orginally an open-sided building with a commemorative stone plaque on the rear internal wall that would have been in full view. At some point the building has been modified and turned into a store building and mess room and the original stone plaque is hidden from public view. In 2007 Friends of Marple Memorial Park added a replica stone plaque to the outside of the building to ensure the building's origins are not forgotten.
