About the memorial: 8 mature trees on Tay Street and a further 23 mature trees on Oxford Street. A modern laminate replacement wall plaque on a bricked alcove on Tay Street. The Oxford Street memorial trees are mentioned in: ''Sheffield's Great War and Beyond: 1916-1918. By Peter Warr'' ''Public reminders of active or deceased soldiers were springing up around the city. In March 1917, donations were sought and trees were planted along part of Oxford Street on behalf of ex pupils now at war from Crookesmoor Council School.'' The Tay Street and Oxford Street Memorial Trees are also mentioned in an Article from The Sheffield Daily Independent 21st March 1917, when the planting ceremony was held.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
