About the memorial: Octagonal in shape with a two shallow stepped base with plinth and column. Front face of column has laurel wreath in relief. Names painted in black. The whole surrounded by Yorkstone paving slabs including an approach path. Enclosed on three sides by a low, chain-linked galvanised cast iron fence in black with black supports. To mark the Centenary of the WW1 Armistice, in 2018 a circular bronze plaque was added to the obelisk, similar in form to the bronze plaques colloquially known as 'Dead Man's Pennies' that were issued to the next of kin of British Empire service personnel who died on active service during that War. In the rectangular section on the plaque equating to where the specific casualty's name was embossed, are the words 'He died for Freedom and Honour. Handforth Village 1918-2018'.
