About the memorial: Two plaques below the window with the names of those killed in the First World War. Two enamel shields of the coats of arms of Selby and See of York impaling (Lang?). The window is a four light window and is filled by 2 rows of scenes, 8 in all plus other scenes and figures in the 10 sections of the upper tracery. Magnificent four light stained glass window, decorated as below, with accompanying plaques bearing inscription and names. On plaques; text surmounted by Arms of Selby (Left) and Diocese of York (Right). Window very elaborately decorated. Lights depict: L to R: (Top) Sailors kneeling before an angel and (Bottom) Soldiers taking Communion on the battlefield; (Top) Three Kings (?) and (bottom) dying soldier lying at the feet of Christ crucified (Top) Clergy kneeling at an altar and (Bottom) another Battlefield Communion scene; (Bottom) Soldier standing at peace in poppy field

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
