CLARE COLLEGE, WAR MEMORIAL, CAMBRIDGE Situated in the Chapel Compiled with additional information by kind permission of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission In Memory Members of the college who gave their lives for their country 1914-1918 ALEXANDER, William Gemmell, 2nd Lieutenant, 7th Liverpool regiment died 15th May 1915 aged 24. Son of William Harrison Alexander Esqr, J.P. and Mrs Mary Sophia nee Gemmell of “Lancelyn” Bromborough, Cheshire. Commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial, France AMPHLETT MORTON, James Fairfax, 2nd Lieutenant, Kings Royal Rifle Corps, died 10th January 1915 aged 24. Mentioned in despatches. Son of James amd Edith of Puxton House, Kidderminster, Worcestershire. Buried in Browns Road Military Cemetery, Festubert, France ANDERSON, John Turnbull, 2nd Lieutenant, 20th Coy, Machine Gun Corps, (Infantry) died 5th October 1917 aged 19. Son of John Glover and Margaret of 10, Kingsley Avenue, Kettering. Educated at Laxton School, Oudle and Oudle School. Scholar at Clare College. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, Belgium. ANDERTON, George Eric Asquith, Lieutenant, Lancashire Fusiliers, attached to 119th Coy, Machine Gun Corps, (Infantry) died 22nd March 1918 aged 22. Son of George Herbert and Laura Elizabeth nee Asquith of Kilpin Lodge, Howden, Yorkshire. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France ANGUS, Robert Edward, Captain, 64th Squadron, and Ayrshire Yeomanry, Royal Flying Corps, died 20th November 1917 aged 23. Son of James and Elizabeth of Ochiltree, Ayshire. Commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial, France APPLEYARD, William, Lieutenant, 6th Yorkshire Regiment died 22nd August 1915. Commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey BAILEY, Philip Gerald, Major 36th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. died 26th April 1917 aged 31. Son of Doctor James Battersby Bailey and Louisa F Bailey of 11, Herne Hill Mansions, Herne Hill, London. Native of Bognor, Sussex and brother of Tom who also fell. Buried at Roclincourt Valley cemetery, France BAILEY, Tom Edmond Geoffrey, Captain, 6th Yorkshire Regiment died 2nd April 1919 aged 35. Son of Doctor James Battersby Bailey and Louisa Florence, nee Carr of 11, Herne Hill Mansions, Herne Hill, London. Native of Bognor and brother of Philip who also fell. Buried at Archangel Allied Cemetery, Russia BAKER, Aveling John Wing, 2nd Lieutenant, 4th attached to the 7th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders died 23rd March 1918. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France BARHAM, Wilfred Saxby, Captain, 3rd attached to the 1st The Buffs, East Kent Regiment died 10th October 1915 aged 20. Son of Colonel Arthur Saxby Barham, C.M.G., and Annie Gertrude of Hole Park, Rolvenden, Kent. Educated at Malvern and Clare College. Buried in Poperinghe New Military Cemetery, Belgium BASS, Victor Abraham, Private 4594, 20th Royal Fusiliers. Killed in action 20th July 1916.
