Status: Unknown
Type: Non freestanding
Location: Internal
Setting: Inside a building - public/private
Description: Board/Plaque/ Tablet
Materials:
  • Timber Timber (any)
Lettering: Painted
Conflicts:
  • Second World War (1939-1945)
About the memorial: Rectangular oak board (landscape), with a Metropolitan Police badge at top-centre, beneath which is the gold painted inscription. The board commemorates officers from the whole of "A" Division (Whitehall) who died in WW2, both in the line of Police duty, i.e. as civilian war casualties, or while serving in the Armed Forces; the inscription does not indicate the nature of each casualty's service at the time they died. Originally in Cannon Row Police Station, then moved to the 2nd Floor lobby of Belgravia Police Station. There was a rededication ceremony in 2010 but the decision to close Belgravia Police Station was taken in 2018 (apparently it was underused). It is curently on sale and exciting much interest among developers. The fate of the memorial is unknown though the IWM Register has declared it to be lost. There is now apparently a "DWO Hub" in the area and the memorial may be there. Local knowledge welcome.
