About the memorial: An elaborately carved wooden pulpit. The polygonal pulpit is made from a dozen different kinds of wood and the base is from the trunk of an elm tree previously growing in the vicarage garden and which has been carved into the torso of a centaur or devil. The external framework and panels of each side are covered with carvings inspired by the visions of the prophet Ezekiel and comprise intertwined foliage together with mammals, fish, birds and reptiles. A further panel by the entrance steps bears the inscription incised in upright capital roman lettering on the framework with military badges in relief on the panels. The front also bears a carved eagle forming a lectern. Three steps lead up to the pulpit; the second step has a flower head carved into it and Xi is carved into the top one. It is at the east end of the nave on the north side. The pulpit is mentioned in the Listing description for the Church
