About the memorial: Unveiled 1905 by Field Marshal Earl Roberts V.C. and located at the West end of the South wall of the nave. It records 25 names; 21 who served and 4 who died. The triangular-headed brass plaque is mounted on black and white marble slabs. The civic arms of Abergavenny with the motto HOSTES NUNC AMICI (Translation: Foes now friends) are at the top of the plaque. A complex geometrical meander surrounds the dedicatory inscription and the names. The meander surrounds six medallions, each incorporating floral badges of the United Kingdom. Paired medallions flank the badges of the regiments in which the commemorated soldiers served: IMPERIAL YEOMANRY; 4Th V B SOUTH WALES BORDERERS; 2ND EAST SURREY REGIMENT. The inscription is in black lettering with red capitals and the names are arranged in two columns. A separate brass plaque below the memorial records its unveiling and the members of the War Fund Committee.
