About the memorial: The WW1 Memorial consists of two bronze plaques which were either side of the memorial gate to the old school site, known as Blandford Secondary School in WW1 and Blandford Grammar School in WW2. A stone plaque was added for WW2 names. These were relocated to the new school site in 1970 when the old Grammar School closed. A smaller stone tablet for the 1982 Falklands War was added for an ex- Blandford Upper School student who died on HMS Sheffield. In 2016 A new memorial arrangement was decided on by the governors. The two stone tablets were replaced by a third bronze plaque in the same style as the WW1 plaques and the whole enclosed in a wooden frame. The memorial was placed in the new main entrance to the school. The old memorial gates still stand (WMO 165273).
