About the memorial: Second War Memorial at Sherborne School ST 6316 1/278 II GV 2. 1955 to 6. Architect, possibly Brakespere. Cruciform plan. Stone slate roof. Pale ashlar. South-west front to Abbey Road has tall wide gable with coping and finial and 3 layers of fenestration. 2-light window with dripmould high in gable end; below, a large 5-light, 3-tier window with dripmould and, just above ground level, 3 small windows of 3-lights each. Buttresses. In south east front a wider projecting gable; ground floor links with cloister wing to south above this, a 7-light, 2-tier window. Buttresses. In North-East front, a fall gable flanked by butttresses; offsets. A double flight of steps with ramped handrail rises to a half-landing with balustrading and then exends in a single flight to the entrance, which has round-headed doorway, flanked by buttresses and with plain entablature. 5-light, 3-tier window with dripmoulded above it, and small 2-light window with dripmould in turn above this. On ground floor, to north and in recession, a rectangular doorway with dripmould surmounted by parapet with stringcourses.c historic England entry
