About the memorial: Before the 1988 fire which totally destroyed the Chapel; a highly decorative Gate of Remembrance lead from the Ante-Chapel to the Chapel. After the fire the some of components of the Gate of Remembrance were salvaged and refurbished. These components were:- At the top of the original gate was a bronze figure of Christ descended from the cross with open arms. Below this was an alabaster tablet of the Virgin and Child, representing the sacrifice of all Mothers who suffered loss. Below this was a bronze group consisting of St George standing on a dragon with a youth and two angels. Below this the actual gates, each with nine openings showing eight angels surrounding a warrior. Each gate pillar had six wrought iron panels listing the names of the fallen of World War 1. On each side of the gate an open stone screen separated the Anti-chapel and Chapel. The lower part of these screens listed the fallen of World War 2. Now these are now presented as individual memorials:- The figure of Christ descended from the cross with open arms is set above the gates between the Chapel Corridor and Chapel Vestibule. The Virgin and Child are framed and on the south wall of the Chapel Vestibule. The original St George with angels group is in a alcove in the chapel vestibule with the dragon laying across the front . As the original screen was completely destroyed the names of the fallen of World War 2 are engraved on a stone panel placed behind the group. The original panels with the names of the fallen of World War 1 are in the Anti-chapel each side of the modern door leading to the Chapel. The chapel was rededicated on the 20th October 1995.
