About the memorial: The memorial is sited in a playground close to the junction of Bridge Road and Leicester Road. It is by the roadside behind raillings. The memorial is of a plain cenotaph shape with stepped based and copper alloy plaque with a bas-relief at the top on the front of the memorial. The plaque is in the centre of a cross in relief of the masonry. Below this is the following inscription in relief: ‘1914 1919 In glorious memory of old boys of Bridge Road School who died in the Great War’ In the centre of the front of the memorial are two recesses with slate plaques with the incised names of the fallen. On the base below the plaques is the following incised inscription: ‘At the going down of the Sun and in the morning We will remember them’. It ahs been suggested this may have originally been sited elsewhere and moved to this location.
