About the memorial: The war memorial in the southern Leicestershire village of Leire is a Portland stone obelisk on a double-stacked plinth and a two-stepped base. The obelisk pad is shaped like a very shallow urn with acanthus decoration at the corners and fluting along the sides. On the front faces of the plinth and the base are black filled inscriptions and a laurel wreath carved in relief with a sword & scabbard. The memorial stands in St. Peter's Churchyard, facing Main St.
