It is a tiered monument of locally quarried sandstone, and in front of the memorial is a “hearth” of natural clay tiles upon which wreaths are placed, and in front of this is a wrought iron fence bordered by two stone pillars. The names of the fallen of two world wars are on bronze plaques on the front of the memorial; on the top tier the inscription 1939 – 1945 in the stone, and the names of the men of the Second World War on a plaque, and on the next tier down the inscription 1914 – 1918 and on the tier below that four bronze plaques with the names of the fallen of the First World War. Names on the memorial can be found on the website of the North East War Memorials Project.
