About the memorial: The grade II listed war memorial in the north Devon village of Combe Martin is a Celtic cross of dressed grey Cornish granite on a plinth and a three-stepped base. There is an Art Nouveau cast bronze plaque on the front face of the plinth commemorating the fallen of World War I and another bronze plaque on the riser of the top step commemorating the fallen of World War II. The memorial stands in its own garden, with a stone wall and wrought iron gate, beside the graveyard of St. Peter ad Vincula in the centre of the village. It is surrounded by a flowerbed and a path leads up to it and around it. A seat stands beside the path. The memorial is 4.73m high

Combe Martin Memorial - Combe Martin on Monday did honour to its glorious dead, the Lord Bishop of Exeter, Lord William Cecil, unveiling and dedicating the parish memorial, a very handsome and imposing Celtic Cross in silver grey Cornish granite, recording, on a moulded bronze tablet at the base, the names of the 35 men of the parish who gave their lives in their country’s cause the Great War. The names on the tablet were:—(NAMES)
The memorial, which cost roughly £400 and was supplied by Mr W. C. Willis, of Combe Martin stands about fifteen feet in height, and is of very substantial proportions, on a site given by the Misses Toms, daughters of the late Rector, at one of the entrances to the town, has the ancient Parish Church in the background, the spot being most a most prominent and suitable one. 
Practically everyone in Combe Martin assembled for the ceremony—bereaved relatives being given a place of honour, and also present were the Chairman (Mr R. Crang) and other members of the Parish Council, the school children (under their respective teachers) Comrades of the Great War and other ex-service men under Lt. F. Cocks (numbering nearly eighty), and all phases of the town’s life and business was entirely suspended throughout the afternoon, and the ceremony was favoured with lovely weather. 
The united choirs  of the town, under the leadership of Mr. C. Goss, with Mr. J. W. Cooke at the organ, led the singing of the hymns “O God our help in ages past," "On the Resurrection Morning” and "For all the Saints” The ceremony was marked by a deep impressiveness throughout 
The “Last Post”' was sounded by ex-Bugler Pearce of the 6th Devons. 
After the proceedings had terminated, Mr. R, Clogg J.P. promised to subscribe an additional £5 towards the cost of the railings, etc
