About the memorial: The Salisbury memorial was dedicated on the 12th February 1922 by Reverend W R F Addison V.C. (a World War I chaplain) and unveiled by Lieutenant T. E. Adlam V.C. It was designed by H H Martyn & Co.and is formed of a low curved Portland stone screen wall displaying six bronze plaques with names and a decorative arched central pediment with dedicatory plaques. Surmounting the arched central pediment is a bronze sculpture depicting a lion reclining on top of a collection of trophies. The ends of the screen wall are surmounted by lanterns. The memorial is Grade II listed and has as its backdrop the Grade II* Listed Guildhall. The dedicatory plaques on the memorial read: 'In Honour And Remembrance Of The Citizens Of Salisbury Who Served Who Fought Who Died For Freedom Home And Humanity 1914-1919' 'For Your Tomorrow We Gave Our Today We Honour All Those Who Gave Their Lives In The Service Of The Country In The Second World War And All Conflicts Since We Will Remember Them' The memorial is cared for by Salisbury City Council

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
