Comments:
Note that the photographs have been enhanced (exposure, colour and clarity) to improve the visibility of the problems. STRUCTURAL: Apparently structurally sound (but see proviso below) with no missing mortar. LETTERING - urgent: all lettering is incised – on the west, south and east sides the lettering is all readable although it requires the right light/shadows and is beginning to be weathered away in places. On the north side some of the names are TOTALLY unreadable and many others only read with difficulty. Fortunately, between what is left, the names tab on this listing and the IWM WMR listing it would be hoped that the lettering could be reconstructed. MOSS: significant quantities of moss on the north and east sides of the plinth and the lower part of the monument base SURROUND: there is a concrete surround (not thought to be a structural foundation) that has significant cracks in the south and west sections. We met a former Parish Councillor who said that the PC had been very grateful for the prvious help from WMT!
