Comments:
The Memorial is in urgent need of cleaning. It is sited to the left of the entrance to St Wilfrid’s churchyard and is adjacent to the main road through the village. The monument generally has weathered and is embedded with biological growths such as algae and lichen from the proximity of a significant amount of vegetation behind the Memorial (vegetation recently reduced in height) and carbon deposits predominantly from air-borne pollutants and from the close proximity to the highway. The accumulation of this has led to some of the tablets becoming difficult to read, particularly the two tablets dedicated to those that died in WW2. We have also been advised that pointing of the joints appears to have begun to crumble and fail in some areas.
