The "poor" description only really applies to the front facade of the memorial, where the wording is becoming difficult to read. The rear and one of the side panels are in good condition. The other side panel, along with the statue, is in a fair condition, some discolouration, though all the features and wording are still visible. The adjacent Mapperley Collieries war memorial is in good condition.
