Some restoration work has recently been carried out on the metal structure, with removal of corrosion and resealing. The concrete plinth is in poor condition, with some green staining, peeling paint and some surface deterioration. This needs stabilisation and repainting. The railings that surround the memorial are in poor condition, with broken elements and poor paint condition
