Just Rifles are proud to announce their plans to clean and restore the Rangers London Regiment 12th Battalion war memorial, through the War Memorials Trust. The memorial is located Outside the Eisenhower Centre on Chenies Street, and is engraved with names of fallen soldiers from the first world war. The inscription reads on the front: The Rangers 12th County of London Regt. 1914 - 1919 Remember with gratitude the true and faithful men who in the Great War went forth for God and the right. - The memory of those who returned not again is hereby perpetuated to be honoured for evermore. The Rangers was a volunteer unit of the British Army formed in the 19th Century. They saw extensive action on the Western Front during the First World War, including at the battles of the Somme and Passchendaele. Just Rifles is keen to restore the memorial as soon as possible since this year marks the 100th anniversary of the end of WW1. The stone Cenotaph is of particular significance due to its location. The building immediately to the rear is the entrance to one of the London WWII deep level shelters, which was used as General Eisenhower's London Headquarters towards the end of 1942 this shelter. It is believed that this is where the D-Day landings were conducted from. www.justrifles.co.uk
