Comments:
The war memorial is located in two separate positions. The cross was relocated to Preston in the 1960's due to road works, the rear wall remains in its original position at the junction of Queen Alexander Road West and Regent Terrace Billy Mill North Shields. The rear wall is in very bad condition and requires immediate attention, the original base area is partly taken by a turning point which could be moved; a BT box is now located at the centre of the rear wall. Large cracks, level displacement and poor historical repairs are evident. The cross is out of the public eye and therefore rarely visited by the public, the rear wall had slated benches where the public could seat and take in the afternoon sun, these have been removed. The two sections should be returned together at the original location prior to the end of 2018. Photographs to be submitted on disc.
