Comments:
Many of the names recorded are now virtually unreadable due to weathering. There is significant lichen growth over parts of the memorial. Plants are growing in the joints between the granite blocks and the loss of pointing is resulting in water penetrating the joints. An application has been made by Assynt Branch RBLS to the WMT for grant aid to assist a restoration project which would clean, repoint and repaint the inscriptions on the memorial [December 2017]. The defunct floodlighting has been reinstated in working order by Highland Council [Autumn 2017] and the deformed bayonet attached to the rifle held by the figure a top the monument has been straightened by Highland Council [Autumn 2017]
