Comments:
In August 2018 a complete repair and refurbishment of the memorial was undertaken. A generous grant from the War Memorials Trust plus other grant holders allowed the work to take place. The roots of an adjacent tree had undermined to patio where the names of the fallen were inscribed on stones. The tree was felled and the stones were taken up to clear all the roots and lay a new subsurface. The patio was then relaid. The plinth was cleaned of loose and flaking stone and all cracks filled. The wooden cross had rotted at the base so the lower part was removed and new wood inserted. The statues were cleaned and the head of the right hand statue reset correctly as it had become loose. The fence and gates secured as the bases of the posts had rotted. As the names are difficult to read it is planned to add a metal plaque with the names engraved.
