During June 2018 the Memorial has undergone professional conservation treatment: cleaning was undertaken using water and careful brushing, and old cement repairs were removed and repairs carried out in a hydraulic lime and sand mortar to match. Scaled areas were repaired by grouting loose flakes and filling the missing area, and large areas of surface loss were repaired with the same mix. The cross-head had suffered cracking and the collar was broken in places, and this has been repaired and reattached to the column using dowels set in resin.
