The memorial is in an area currently being developed into housing on the land where the previous cement works once stood. It is hard to judge whether the memorial has always had a "coating" or whether this has been added at a later date as a measure to protect it from its surrounding environment. The coating is blistering in places and cracking. There is also a certain amount of lichen or organic growth on the memorial and the base. The bronze plaque appears in good condition.
